Travel My Way

At some point in life, travel stops being about proving something and starts being about enjoying it. Comfort matters. Good wine matters. And no, we are no longer “powering through” a red-eye like it’s a badge of honor.

When I think back to how I traveled in my 30s, I’m amazed. Multiple connections? Fine. Shoes that hurt but looked cute? Absolutely. Carrying everything “just in case”? Of course.

Now? I travel smarter.

Here are a few things I’ve learned — mostly the hard way:

1. If it’s uncomfortable at home, it’s not coming on the trip. Shoes, jeans, bras — I don’t care how great they look. Travel is not the time to break in anything.

2. One great outfit beats five “maybe” outfits.

We don’t need options for every possible scenario. We need clothes that travel well, feel good, and don’t wrinkle.

3. I no longer rush for the sake of saying I did it.

Three cities in four days? Hard pass. I’d rather linger, sit at a café, people-watch, and actually remember where I was.

4. Bathrooms, snacks, and sleep are non-negotiable.

This isn’t being “high maintenance.” This is being realistic. And happy.

Travel after 50 has a confidence to it. We know what we like. We know what we don’t. And we’re finally okay designing trips that suit us, not some imaginary version of how travel “should” look.

And maybe that’s the best part — traveling for joy, curiosity, connection, and a really good meal… without apologizing for any of it.

Because we’ve earned this version of travel. ✨

And travel for me means staying active.
