Why Zermatt, Switzerland Is on My Travel Wish List—Even Without the Skis

For the longest time, I dreamed of going to Zermatt, Switzerland to ski. I imagined myself gliding through fresh powder with the iconic Matterhorn in the background, then warming up at a cozy alpine lodge and indulging in fondue. But here’s the twist—I’ve fallen out of love with the cold.
So for a while, I figured maybe this famous ski town wasn’t the place for me anymore. But then I started researching a little deeper and realized: Zermatt is just as magical in the warmer months, and hiking there might be even more incredible than skiing (for me).
Hiking in Zermatt: A Summer Dream
Even in the summer, the Matterhorn still stands tall and snowcapped. But instead of snowboards and ski lifts, you’ll find lush green meadows, sparkling lakes, and wildflower-filled trails. The best hikes in Zermatt cater to all levels—casual walkers to experienced trekkers. And if you want those postcard-perfect views without the climb, Zermatt’s famous Gornergrat railway and scenic cable cars make it easy to get high into the mountains in comfort.
For me, Zermatt has officially gone from a ski destination to a bucket-list hiking trip in the Swiss Alps. I want to sip coffee with a Matterhorn view, explore the trails, and take in the beauty without bundling up.
Why You Should Add Zermatt to Your Travel List
Whether you love winter sports or prefer sunny adventures, Zermatt is one of the best places to visit in Switzerland. Here’s why it deserves a spot on your list:
Year-round beauty. Zermatt offers stunning views in every season, not just winter.
Ideal for all travel styles. Whether you’re a skier, hiker, foodie, or scenic traveler, Zermatt welcomes everyone.
So no—I haven’t been to Zermatt yet. But it’s calling my name, and if it’s calling yours too, let’s talk.
