What is something you pack in your travel bag to prevent coming home sick?!

I've been thinking about this ever since a recent train ride where I sat next to a guy who was coughing and sniffling the entire trip. Two days later, guess who had a sore throat, a head cold, and a cough that hung on for days?

It got me thinking about the little "just in case" kit so many of us carry, clearly not me this time. Here are a few things I've seen travelers tuck into their bags:

  • A face mask or two, for crowded trains, planes, or that seatmate who's clearly under the weather. I usually wear a scarf around my neck to pull up in cases like this-it was not enough.

  • Hand sanitizer and a small pack of disinfecting wipes for tray tables and armrests

  • Tissues, cough drops, and a few favorite tea bags

  • Saline nasal spray for dry airplane air

  • Zinc lozenges, which some people like to have at the first tickle in their throat-I certainly wish I had these.

  • A small thermometer and a couple of at-home test kits, thats a big maybe for me. You can only pack so much.

  • Electrolyte packets, because staying hydrated is harder than it sounds when you're on the go. This is an absolutely for me moving forward.

What's in your just-in-case bag? Is there one item you never leave home without? Anything you wish you'd packed on a trip that went sideways?

And of course, I'm a travel advisor, not a doctor, so check with your own physician about what's right for you.

Travel safe and be prepared for "that" sick person that may sit next to you.
